Everything is awesome

Strange though it may seem, the only thing I enjoy more than going on some wild and drunken travel adventure is the returning home. No matter how brief the journey, I get a real kick out of seeing what’s changed in my absence and I’m certain that this partiality can be traced back to my childhood in the North-West of England. Along with my brothers, my parents would ship me off to spend the summer holidays in Ireland with our grandmother and when I came home my mother would have saved up all the weekly comic books I had missed while away. I remember well, coming home to those huge stacks of Beano and Dandy comics as well as the give-away toys and sweets that featured together with particular issues and with intermittent frequency. There is a great quote by the French novelist and critic Marcel Proust along the lines that “remembrance of things past is not necessarily the remembrance of things as they were” but perhaps that’s not such a bad thing. I hope to always have such pleasant memories for when they’re needed. But I digress.

I returned to work on Wednesday and found that my office seating has been slightly altered, meaning that another team now sits within my department’s desk area. As mundane a change as this may seem, I’ve always found it remarkable how such minor alterations to a seating plan can impact on your day-to-day life. By which I mean that I’m sure I’m going to find one of the newbies irritating. As David Foster Wallace wrote, “It always seems to be important to have at least one person to hate.” Again, I digress. The point of this post was actually to show you some of the new street art that has sprung up in Camden while I was away. Enjoy.
