The Chalk Philosopher returns

I found another poem written on a boarded-up demolition site in Camden Town this afternoon. Judging by the handwriting, I believe it has the same author as yesterday’s work. It would appear that the person responsible for these poems is indeed a vagrant – or at least someone getting their night’s rest in a sleeping bag. I will have to keep an eye out for the writer when I’m next around town. Perhaps one day I will catch them working on another poem. In which case, I’ll have to toss them a few coins and share some of your kind comments. What do you think about this poem?

  1. I like this one too. It’s a practice I do as well – offering up daily gratitude.

  2. Best one yet! Puts lots of things into perspective.

  3. it’s beautiful! what a great thing to find in the morning

Reblogged this on The Bogwan's Cannon.

  5. I find this poem to be what poetry really should be in my opinion: honest and inspirational. The chalk philosopher is all about the essentials. I like it.

  6. I agree with Sheila Morris, simple, honest and from the heart poetry. Hear that, Bard?

  7. This person is thankful to be alive as the Universe conspires to show him/her the way through poetry.

  8. That’s a legit little poem. Well stated on his or her behalf.

  9. “The universe is very kind” —

Not sure I agree with that.

Arriving at “sleeping bag” in the last line instantly made me feel different about the poem. It makes me think about appreciation and gratefulness.

  11. I think the person who wrote this is indeed someone who fully understands the concept of gratitude. A lesson in humility for the rest of us who have a warm bed to sleep in every night.

brilliant poem even though the words are so simple

It’s not complicated. It’s not artistic talent. It’s not even grammatically correct. But I like the use of color. I think it’s interesting that every word is capitalized, even with the use of all capitals. And the message is one we all need to remember, though so easy to forget. So, my thought: respect to the Street Sage.
