Blink and you’ll miss it (Gallery)

The street-art scene in Camden Town is developing so rapidly these days that keeping up with the enormous number changes that occur in the area each week has become an almost full-time occupation. The rate at which new artworks are being installed and older pieces painted over has never been so high. As any one with a knowledge of the form will tell you, by it’s very nature, street-art is an especially ephemeral phenomenon and no work is exempt from the possibility of desecration or replacement.

With such a high turnover, it would be a great shame for an artist to have their work painted over before anyone could capture it on film. However, with around 500,000 tourists visiting Camden Town every week, that doesn’t seem all that likely to happen any time soon. I would even go as far as to assert that Camden is now equally as significant to the London street-art scene as Brick Lane – bold words by any estimation. Whatever the case, it is clearly a very exciting time for the area and it is a privilege to be in a position whereby I can find and capture these works as they appear.

This afternoon, with camera in hand, I braved the beginnings of Storm Imogen to scout for new pieces. Sure enough, it looks like the street artists of North London have had a busy weekend. I snapped everything I found just in case the neighbourhood is under water by the end of the day.

Wonderful job the street artists are doing; wonderful job you’re doing in tracking their work, and bringing a sense of it to the rest of us.

I looked through all of them and these are really great! Thanks for archiving them so we can all go back and look again even when they are long gone.
