Like meeting an old friend, in some weird way.

Those of you who have been following this site for a while may remember that while working in Camden Town, I would regularly spot and photograph street art as it appeared on a rather nondescript back street by the name of Stucley Place (AKA Shit Alley).

It occurs to me now, that I have never gone into too much detail as to how it came to be known in such a manner. As the moniker would suggest, there is a lot of shit on Shit Alley – or at least there used to be. The reason being that the street was often used by drunkards and addicts as a sort of open air latrine. Stucley Place runs parallel to Camden High Street and I’m sure you can imagine some of the things that go on there of a Saturday night. But, as they say, one can never be sure about these sorts of things. I asked of the co-worker who told me of street’s reputation, “How do you know it’s people doing it and not dogs.”

“Well,” he said to me with a smile. “Dogs don’t usually start a shit from half way up the wall.”

Such a charmer was he.

Anyway, monotonous vulgarity aside, I was in Camden for a meeting last week and visited the usual old haunts only to find this colourful new work on that notorious street. I found a few other murals around the area, but will save them to post another day.
