I caught this impressive new mural by the 40HK CREW in Stucley Place late on Monday afternoon. As always, I immediately took a photo of the piece, however, the angle of the sun at that time of day resulted in a flare on my lens which I think somewhat marred the picture. Not one to be discouraged so easily , I decided to return at an earlier hour the next day to do the work justice. Here is the original photo:
Unfortunately, when I came back to the site yesterday, it looks as though someone got there first and thought that vandalising the piece would be the right thing to do.
The senseless defacement of this mural almost seems to mirror the wave of irrational acts being reported across the UK after the EU referendum and I really struggle to fathom the kind of mind that would indulge in such a negative and destructive practice – though we could certainly fill a lot of time debating the validity of many of these claims (*wink, radical leftist propaganda, *wink). However, it is important to understand that these acts reflect more on those persons committing them than they do on the England that I have come to know as a fair, open-minded and tolerant society. Another mural will replace this unfortunate piece and even if that is in turn spoiled then another will appear in it’s stead, followed by another, and another, because it is the decencies and not the iniquities of human beings that in the end triumph.

Yes, it is a shame there are always art spoilers everywhere.
Well said.
It is good that you were able to get a picture of the mural before it was defaced. Perhaps if this is given more publicity someone can identify the person who did the tagging.
