The other day, I was due to view a new flat in Stoke Newington and had literally traveled across the city when I received an email from the advertiser informing me that the room had just been filled. Upset but never disheartened, I decided to make the best of the day and explore a part of the city that I hadn’t visited since first moving to London over 2 years ago. As anyone living in Western Europe knows, it is bloody cold at the moment. However, as my Grandmother says – in possible contradiction with modern medical thinking – nothing beats a walks in cold weather.
I’d forgotten exactly how much fantastic stuff is in the area, including the bustling Borough Market, The Shard (London’s tourist trap du jour), Guy’s Campus of King’s College London and – of course – the bridge itself. After spending a few hours pottering around the area, I crossed the Thames to check out The Monument, a two hundred foot tall stone column erected to commemorate the Great Fire Of London. From Monument I made my way towards Liverpool Street Station for the train home. The day, although transpiring in an unplanned fashion, was a welcome reminder of the history and culture that attracted me to this city in the first place.
Big fan of London, will be writing about it soon hopefully! Thanks for the follow!
