Just once I’d like to enter a party like this:
The clip is from the movie Cinderfella (1960) starring the incomparable Jerry Lewis. The story goes that this sequence was shot in a single take and at the end of the scene, when the Cinderfella character runs back up the staircase, Lewis actually suffered a heart attack and was rushed from the set and taken to hospital.
Clips like this take me right back to my childhood, watching old movies at my grandmother’s house on Saturday afternoons. She would charge up my brothers and I with sweets, chocolate and Coca-Cola (we were rather spoiled) before handing these hyperactive and sugar stuffed kids back to my parents at the end of the day. We were like a pack of rabid teddy bears. What old films take you back to your childhood?
Cinderella definitely. And the annual broadcast of The Wizard of Oz. Back then my family had an antenna wired to the chimney and only got 3 channels.
Saturday afternoons at the local picture theatre, watching cowboy movies and rolling Jaffas down the aisle.

What does it say about me that you have just made me realize I don’t readily recall any child-like childhood movies? The first movie that I thought of at the end of your post was “On The Waterfront” Marlon Brando! I was 9. Ha!

I did love the sound of music , one of the things that still stands out from that movie is when the children were all dressed up they would stand in line to be approved I think, ha ha; my poor darlings had a lot of old fashioned clothes because of that film and nothing pleased me better than to choose the same outfits for the girls and colours that would blend in for the boys. They now tell me that those lovely ‘cringe clothes’ did not make them as happy and proud as me. When there friends were wearing jeans mine might be caught at times with long flowing dresses for the girls sailor suits for the boys. p.s. Those steps in the video had me thinking back to a time I was in Paris and trying to really impress by elegantly walk down all the steps of the Sacre Coeur , well elegant would not be the word to describe my descent but thats another story and now I remember that I really loved the film 3 coins in a fountain and many more so I think I better go and write a blog ha ha. First of all, I hadn’t heard about the heart attack 🙁 This clip actually brought me back ’cause I think the last time I saw this I was in high school in the 70s! lol I’d say the one that sticks out the most is Mary Poppins. I saw it when it premiered for its release at Radio City Music Hall, back when they showed movies there, too. And I listened—incessantly—to the soundtrack, on vinyl, of course, with my portable record player 🙂 Thanks for the trip down memory lane. (Hope you’re feeling well, too 🙂 )

Well all of Jerry’s movies of course. But Abbott and Costello! Musicals like Showboat and Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Yours, Mine and Ours with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda! Oh my, the list is endless. But the best ever was Saturday night opocorn, frozen cokes and watxhing Flipper and Gentle Ben. My Dad used an aluminum pot on ghe stove. Best. Popcorn. Ever. Thanks for the memories.

When I think of screen viewing in my childhood, I remember TV, rather than films, and Skippy, the bush kangaroo.
Skippy was cooler than that guy in the red jacket. I don’t know if you are familiar with this Antipodean wonder or not?
She had better communication skills than most people I knew at the time.
Or today, to be totally honest.
I’m really dating myself here, but I loved, loved, loved watching Elvis movies every Saturday 🙂
I love Jerry, although I’ve heard he can rub people the wrong way. Nevertheless he has made me smile on many an occasion. I was surprised to read he had a heart attack during the filming of that scene. But it was not until more recent years that he started trying to take better care of himself. During his Labor Day Telethons here he would go for twenty-four hours without sleep, eating only candy-bars and drinking caffeine. Such is his love for children in medical need. Loved the Jerry Louis Cinderfella. I’d never seen that one before. I remember Saturday afternoons in the 1970’s watching re-runs of Little Rascals episodes and movies, mostly westerns but my favorites were musicals. Memory has warped, but I remember watching big classic musical movies with synchronized swimming opening up in the middle of huge dance numbers. Danny Kaye, Fred Astair, Ginger Rogers, Gene Kelly, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Van Johnson…
I liked Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, my brothers liked The Three Stooges.
Captain Sinbad (1963) starring Guy Williams (that Zorro, Lost in Space guy). I loved action and adventure movies when I was seven. But Cinderfella, Geisha Boy, and the Nutty Professor… I loved those comedies too.
